In a state visit to Republic of Benin, on the invitation of Dr. Boni Yayi, President of the Republic of Benin, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, the President of the Republic of Liberia was at Songhai on Thursday, August 22nd, 2013.
Between her first visit to Songhai four years ago and the second one that the first woman in Africa to access the function of Head of State has made, many things have changed significantly in the center especially in terms of production and processing technology. And this is what Sirleaf took the time to discover this Thursday: Explanation of the green rural cities model, visit of agricultural machines manufacturing plant, rice milling, soy and cashew nuts processing units; visit of animal production and food crops units, discovery of greenhouses and juices and table water production plant; visit of exhibition stands of the centre’s products, a walkabout followed by implementation of Liberian and Beninese national anthems ; everything has been set up to provide the two Presidents with a wonderful tour of the centre. Visit reflecting once again the commitment of the two Presidents to support the development of agriculture in Africa. They also confirmed it in the final communiqué released marking the end of the stay of President Sirleaf in Republic of Benin, which is stated as follows: “Appreciating the dynamic and innovative agricultural program of Songhai Centre in Porto Novo, two (02) Heads of State agreed to promote this model by duplicating in their respective countries as a source of youth employment and wealth creation.” Note that Liberia already has a Songhai type Centre set up in the framework of Songhai Regional Project.
