MAKERA

In Nigeria, Katsina sites are making very encouraging progress. On Makera site, the garden is divided into two zones, one for large-scale crops of more than 2,500 m2 each, such as tomato, onion, pepper and sweet corn, one for mixed farming with cucumber, shallots etc. in lines of 500 to 1000 m2. Corn and millet are covering all areas available from outside to every corner of the farm. The principles of soil improvement and plant protection are still applied. To strengthen these practices, technicians use the principle of “producing more with less” with a better understanding of zero tillage with supporting examples.

In animal production, apart from poultry and other poultry that are expanding, the performance of grasscutters, quails, cattle and fish, in the semi-arid climate is significant. Artificial insemination of catfish was a success with nearly 80,000 fries. The setting up of cages in 4 new buildings is completed, bringing the poultry capacity to 30,000 birds against 10,000 planned for in the agreements signed with Nigerian authorities.

Agro-industry is already a reality on the site; the setting up of the big production factory is gradually nearing completion and the production of juice, water, tomato purée, groundnut oil, soybean oil and snacks will be launched very soon.
